Come and discover one of the most impressive landscapes in Andorra: the biggest glacial cirque in the Principality with its 6 lakes, known as the Pessons Lakes. This is pure nature in an environment where mountains, snow and a feeling of freedom will accompany you on your walk.

Very near the Lu&Bo Grau Roig Hotel & Spa, our hotel in Grandvalira, Andorra, there is an amazing location that will surprise even the most adventurous travellers and inspire the most creative souls. This is a place where the mountain landscape unfolds as a genuine quirk of nature, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a state of unparalleled elation and joy.

The route we suggest will take a longer or shorter time depending on how prepared you are for uphill walks in the mountains. There are various options, and generally speaking the difficulty ranges from medium to high. You could for example opt for the 12-km hike that takes you from the ski school at Grau Roig to the Montmalús, past the lakes and the Pic de Ribuls. The panoramic views are well worth the effort.

The short hike is around 5.6 km long, departing from the car park in Grandvalira through the track that opens up towards the west. The climb will take you straight to the famous restaurant Es Refugi, one of the most well-known in Grau Roig, just next to the first lake. The route continues along the path heading south (GRP) and then switches to GR7 towards Lake Rodó, from where you can see the cirque and lakes. The next lake is Lake Meligar and Les Fonts. The Cap de Pessons is the last lake that this route covers and from there you head towards the Pessons hill.

Taking this route during the winter months requires careful assessment of the weather forecast, since snow or fog will make the hike more difficult. The early morning hours are recommended, allowing you to make the most of the daylight and come back easily, not having to find your way in the dark.

No matter what the weather forecast in Grandvalira says, you have to be equipped for cold, since temperatures at this time of year are low, even on the sunniest of days. Thermal underwear and mountain trousers and jackets are examples of essential items of clothing.

Another must is footwear adapted to mountain paths, and the provisioning: water and a bit of food so you can stop for a snack somewhere along the route to admire the view. Also make sure your mobile has a fully-charged battery in case of emergencies: there is coverage all the way along the hike.
